Up in the air again!

The last time I posted, I was working at the Sheriff’s office and not teaching school.  Because I was not teaching, I made my Action Report at Brazosport College. Now, there have been some big changes in my work.  I am teaching graphic design, animation, digital interactive media, web technologies, advanced animation, and advanced graphic design at the high school. I took off working on my Lamar master program for six months so I could focus on the new job, and learn all the new Adobe software programs: Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver.  Now that I am back, I am trying to work out how to continue working on my Action Research and Internship plan. I am not sure how to continue from here. It would be so much more useful to me to complete my Internship and Action Research at my new school, but I do not know if it would be better to just continue completing my work at Brazosport. These last five weeks I have not worked on either project. I have had my hands full just completing my assignments and continuing working on learning the software I need to teach everyday. My plan is to review my Action Research and evaluate how much I have actually completed. If a large portion is complete, I will finish it off at Brazosport. My thought is the Internship plan is almost complete and I will work to complete it at Brazosport. The Action Research is not nearly complete, and I may just restart it at Angleton High School, if that is acceptable to everyone.

I was an interior design major before I changed to business. I have always loved old houses, and recently found out I lived in a house similar to the house I moved when I was a toddler. What did your family think of this project? They thought I was not operating on all cylinders. One daughter told me that you do not buy and old house like and antique and stick it in your backyard. Did you know what you were getting into? I had a friend that had moved two houses together, and I loved her house. I did not know the expense would be so much. Part of that was due to the fact Hurricane Ike came through and construction costs skyrocketed. Did you have any time where yo...

Technology Assessments

Assessments are a method of evaluating. They can help the assessor gain insight which will, in turn, help with decisions that need to be made. An assessment is a common, accepted practice that could be classified as an old thing (Prensky, 2008). Who we are assessing is also an accepted idea. Teachers and students have been assessed by standardized testing, informal assessment, performances and results throughout their careers. What is new in this assessment is what we are assessing, technology skills.   I believe the same argument for the value in having assessments for students and teachers in core subjects applies to the argument that there is value in having assessments in technology skills.      In assessing technology it is first important to collect information. The Texas STaR Chart gives a variety of descriptions that help assess whether a teacher is using teacher- centered instruction or student-centered learning. There is also t...
